NEPA Process
The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) provides a framework to evaluate the impact of major federal actions on the environment; through the PEIS process, the public has an opportunity to provide input on implementation alternatives. FirstNet is preparing these PEISs in accordance with the NEPA law, White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) implementing regulations, and FirstNet’s NEPA Implementing Procedures, which were finalized and published in the Federal Register on April 29, 2014. These PEISs will identify potential environmental impacts of the design, construction, and operation of the nationwide NPSBN.
