FirstNet Finance Committee Approves FY16 Budget with Focus on Acquisition, Consultation

RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Finance Committee today approved funding guidance to advance FirstNet’s top priorities in Fiscal Year 2016 (FY16), including the release of a Request for Proposal(s) (RFP) for the nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN), further consultation with a broad range of public safety stakeholders, and a spectrum relocation grant program to ensure unencumbered spectrum for the network.

FirstNet Announces August 27 Industry Day to Continue Engagement with Public Safety, Industry

RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) announced today it will hold a second Industry Day on Thursday, August 27, to address both recent developments and key next steps for its nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN) acquisition. The Industry Day will take place at FirstNet’s headquarters in Reston, VA from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Eastern Time and will be open to the public and broadcast via webcast.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Board met this week to ensure the continued success of its Strategic Program Roadmap (Roadmap) and the deployment of a nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN). During FirstNet Committee and Board meetings held yesterday and today, the Board reviewed key Roadmap milestones in the areas of acquisition, finance, technology, and consultation, which are critical for the development of a final Request for Proposal (RFP) for the network.

FirstNet Extends Comment Period for Second Notice

RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (“FirstNet”) today announced that it is extending the comment period for its recently released Second Notice to ensure interested parties, including states and territories, have additional time to provide meaningful responses. FirstNet Chairwoman Sue Swenson testified before the Senate Commerce Science and Transportation Committee today at a hearing titled "Three Years Later: Are We Any Closer To A Nationwide Public Safety Wireless Broadband Network?" In her testimony, Chair Swenson outlined both the progress and challenges in establishing a nationwide public safety broadband network. The testimony also points out the robust consultation and outreach that FirstNet has taken to coordinate with the public safety community at all levels of government to ensure the network is deployed throughout the nation, including in rural communities.

FirstNet Board Approves Release of Second Public Notice and Seeks Comments

RESTON, VA – As part of its ongoing efforts to consult with stakeholders, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Board today approved for release a second Public Notice (Second Notice) seeking comment on important interpretations of FirstNet’s enabling legislation, including public safety customer, operational, and funding considerations related to states or territories assuming responsibility for radio access network (RAN) deployment.
