Chief Matt Slinkard is the Executive Assistant Chief for the City of Houston Police Department. Chief Slinkard has worked for the Houston Police Department for 25 years and during his career he has served in and led numerous divisions within field, investigative, and support operations. He has also served as the department’s chief of staff.

He currently serves as an executive command officer and manages the investigative and special operations functions that include 22 divisions and five commands. Chief Slinkard is also responsible for planning and overseeing police operations for special events in Houston. He has served as Public Safety Chair and Incident Commander for the NCAA Final Four and COPA Soccer tournaments and was the Department’s Incident Commander for Super Bowl LI operations.

Chief Slinkard is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, and the Police Executive Research Forum. He is a graduate of the 232nd session of the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police, the Police Executive Leadership Institute, and the National Executive Institute. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Management from Sam Houston State University, a Master Peace Officer License in the State of Texas, and is a certified Texas Commission on Law Enforcement instructor.
