At the Public Safety Roadmap Summit, FirstNet Authority staff met with nearly 100 stakeholders from across the nation to collect their feedback to inform a Roadmap for the network.
The FirstNet Authority joined the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System Board for a Region VII User Forum in Altoona, Iowa. Public safety agencies from the region gathered to learn more about the latest FirstNet developments and key initiatives underway across Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri.
First responders from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Maryland integrated FirstNet into search and rescue exercises held in Gore, VA — a remote region in the Shenandoah Valley. The exercise gave first responders the opportunity to practice operationalizing public safety broadband in rural areas and in situations they may not experience every day.
First responders serving the Red Cliff Reservation will soon be getting a major boost in their access to broadband communications with the addition of a new, purpose-built cell site. The new Infrastructure will improve connectivity for Tribal first responders and expand rural broadband access for the tribal community.

The exercise used FirstNet to demonstrate how the network could enhance operational communications during a natural disaster.

FirstNet’s deployables were recently used by the Yankton Sioux Tribe Police Department in South Dakota, where rough terrain physically limits LTE coverage. During a critical search-and-rescue mission, the department reached out to the FirstNet Authority and AT&T, which deployed a SatCOLT within hours.

As a policy and research organization for the nation’s law enforcement community, PERF is delivering a series of forums that explore the adoption of FirstNet by police and other public safety users around the nation.
