Year-round, first responders brave challenges so the rest of us may stay safe. In honor of their hard work and dedication, every spring we honor and celebrate these heroes for selflessly protecting and serving our communities.
A few weeks ago, we recognized our nation’s emergency telecommunicators during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week with Board Member Karima Holmes and Senior 9-1-1/Emergency Communications Advisor John Hunt paying tribute to our public safety colleagues. Emergency telecommunicators are essential to saving lives and keeping us safe, as they collect, analyze, and share vast amounts of data and information quickly and efficiently, helping responders make critical decisions.
Throughout the month of May, we are honoring the courage, commitment, and sacrifices of those in the fire service, law enforcement, and emergency medical services (EMS) communities, as well as our nation’s public servants. Join us in celebrating the heroes among us during these annual events.
May 2: National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day
Created by the National Fire Protection Association, Wildfire Community Preparedness Day educates residents and communities about wildfire risks and helps them prepare their homes for potential fires. By planning ahead, communities are taking important steps to protect their neighborhoods, their neighbors, and the first responders who serve their communities. Join the conversation on social media with #WildfirePrepDay and learn how FirstNet helps keep responders prepared and connected.
May 4: International Firefighters’ Day
Firefighters work day-in and day-out to protect life and property. On International Firefighters’ Day, we join Senior Fire Services Advisor Mike Worrell in recognizing and showing our appreciation for the men and women around the world who risk their lives to keep us safe. Join us on social media with #InternationalFirefightersDay to honor the sacrifices firefighters make to protect our communities.
May 3-9: Public Service Recognition Week
Public Service Recognition Week honors public servants across the country working for federal, state, county, local, and tribal governments. At the First Responder Network Authority, we are proud to support first responders with a network built to meet public safety’s needs. Join the conversation on social media with #PSRW and help us celebrate our nation’s government employees.
May 10-16: National Police Week
Every year during National Police Week, we recognize the sacrifices made by our nation’s law enforcement officers. Join us and Senior Law Enforcement Advisor Harry Markley on social media with #NationalPoliceWeek to honor the law enforcement officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in their commitment to protect and serve.
May 17-23: National EMS Week
National EMS Week recognizes the EMS professionals serving their communities and provides an opportunity to educate the public about the important work they do. This year’s EMS Week theme is “Ready Today. Preparing for Tomorrow.” Senior EMS Advisor Brent Williams and the FirstNet Authority will celebrate those who provide life-saving services to their communities every day; follow along on social media with #EMSweek.
The work that our nation’s first responders perform is more vital than ever. These annual events give us the opportunity to show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by those on the front lines, keeping our communities safe. From all of us here at the FirstNet Authority, thank you to all members of public safety for everything you do. We are honored to serve you.
