Coverage Enhancement Workshops

When it comes to building a network for public safety, input from public safety is essential. That’s the driving force behind Coverage Enhancement Workshops, collaborative sessions where public safety agencies and the FirstNet Authority identify where coverage improvements are most needed and why.

The insights gathered will shape future tower builds across the country. More than $8 billion is planned for network investment over the next decade, $2 billion of which will enhance public safety coverage nationwide, including in rural and high-capacity urban areas.

In preparation for this major investment in coverage, the FirstNet Authority took a mindful, data-driven approach in selecting areas that lacked coverage in each state and territory. Drawing from crowdsourced call data, critical infrastructure locations, the national risk index, and other data, the FirstNet Authority developed areas of interest (AOIs) for new cellular site builds.

We'll bring you into this process either one-on-one or through a meeting in your area.

FirstNet subscribers and non-subscribers have an opportunity to give feedback on these proposed AOIs at Coverage Enhancement Workshops being held across the country. The FirstNet Authority wants to hear where you need coverage most in your state or territory and why.

These workshops are a key step in expanding the nationwide broadband network for public safety. Based on well-researched data and input from public safety, cell sites will be built across the nation, providing reliable coverage and enabling public safety to achieve its mission.
