Although the distances and differences between nations are vast, the mission of public safety to protect lives and property is essentially the same globally, along with the need for reliable communications. Some nations are planning to create nationwide wireless networks dedicated to first responders. An estimated 30 countries are actively examining the possibility of providing priority on a reliable, secure broadband network for public safety. Although the objectives are similar, countries are likely to design public-safety broadband programs in various ways. As the global marketplace for public-safety broadband opens, there is an opportunity to share challenges and solutions.
