About the Roadmap
The FirstNet Authority Roadmap (Roadmap) is designed to guide the growth, evolution, and advancement of FirstNet. It was developed with input from public safety, industry, government, and the FirstNet Authority’s network contractor, AT&T. The Roadmap identifies public safety’s operational needs and areas the FirstNet Authority will focus programs, activities, and investment dollars.
The future of the network, driven by public safety’s priorities
The Roadmap was developed in coordination with public safety through a nationwide engagement effort. The FirstNet Authority held more than 7,000 engagements since 2019 to collect feedback from the public safety community about responders’ operational needs. To ensure the network evolves with new technologies, the FirstNet Authority also conducted targeted industry engagements and market research to capture industry trends, drivers, and advancements.
The initial FirstNet Authority Roadmap was released in 2019 and updated in 2020 and 2023.
The Roadmap’s goals and priorities
The Roadmap is structured around three areas: the continued evolution of a Dependable Network, which enables Connected Responders, and ultimately allows for Operationalizing Advanced Technologies. These areas represent end goals that enhance public safety operations today and into the future.
Dependable Network
Evolve the network to ensure reliable indoor and outdoor connectivity through comprehensive coverage solutions and upgrade the foundational core to enable advanced technologies.
Connected Responders
Enable critical features and solutions that allow the transfer of and access to regular and mission-critical data among responders, agencies, and jurisdictions.
Operationalizing Advanced Technologies
Influence evolving technologies and empower public safety to transform operations using those technologies.
