First responders are dedicated to keeping our communities safe. Here at the First Responder Network Authority, we are honored to work with and serve the public safety community so responders may come home safe at the end of every shift.
Every spring, we have the opportunity to recognize the dedication and sacrifices made by public safety officials year-round. Join us as we celebrate and honor the men and women in emergency communications, the fire service, law enforcement, and emergency medical services (EMS), as well as public servants and volunteers.
Learn more about these annual events:
April 1-30: Emergency Communications Month
This April, we join the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in recognizing the inaugural Emergency Communications Month. Communications are critical during emergencies and disasters, and we honor the emergency communicators working on the front lines to ensure responders remain connected.
April 10-16: National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we celebrate emergency telecommunicators and their commitment to answering the call—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Join FirstNet Authority staff, including Senior 9-1-1/Emergency Communications Advisor John Hunt and Board Member Karima Holmes, as we recognize the work of emergency telecommunicators nationwide. Follow the conversation on social media using #NPSTW2022.
April 17-23: National Volunteer Week
Volunteers are a crucial part of public safety. More than half of our nation’s firefighters are volunteers, braving dangerous incidents to keep their neighbors safe. Volunteers also assist in other elements of public safety—from conducting training with law enforcement agencies to providing emergency care with volunteer EMT companies. During National Volunteer Week, we thank those dedicated volunteers who give their time and energy to public safety. Use #NVW and #NationalVolunteerWeek on social media to help us celebrate their work.
May 1-7: Public Service Recognition Week
During the first week of May, we recognize the local, state, federal, and tribal government employees who strengthen their communities. Celebrate Public Service Recognition Week with us on social media using #PSRW and #PSRW2022.
May 4: International Firefighters’ Day
First celebrated in 1999 after the tragic loss of five firefighters in Australia, International Firefighters’ Day is commemorated every May 4. On this day, we recognize those around the world who protect us and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We join FirstNet Authority Senior Fire Services Advisor Gary McCarraher, Board Vice Chair and Fire Chief Richard Carrizzo, and Board member and former Fire Chief Brian Crawford in paying our respects to the men and women of the fire service. Use #InternationalFirefightersDay on social media to honor the service of firefighters.
May 7: National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day
The first Saturday of May is dedicated to National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Individuals are encouraged to learn about wildfire safety and participate in risk reduction projects to protect against the threat of wildfires. Helping reduce these risks can help keep neighborhoods and fire personnel safe. On May 7th, follow #WildfirePrepDay on social media and check out this fact sheet to learn how FirstNet is supporting responders as they battle wildfires.
May 15-21: National Police Week
National Police Week began in 1962 with a proclamation from President John F. Kennedy to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. During the week, we recognize the dedication of our nation’s law enforcement officers who selflessly work to protect others. Join us using #NationalPoliceWeek on social media as we show our appreciation and remember fallen officers with FirstNet Authority Senior Law Enforcement Advisor Harry Markley and Board members Sheriff Kristin Graziano, Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, and Chief Sylvia Moir.
May 15-21: National EMS Week
This year, we celebrate the 47th annual National EMS Week. During this week, we celebrate the EMS practitioners who have risen to the challenge and the incredible work they do to protect our communities. Join FirstNet Authority Board member Paul Patrick in honoring the men and women of EMS who provide lifesaving services every day. Use #EMSWeek on social media to help us recognize those on the front lines of emergency medical response.
Over the past two years, the men and women of public safety and public service have faced unprecedented challenges. This spring, let’s all take a moment to recognize the commitment and dedication of these responders.
From all of us at the First Responder Network Authority, thank you to the members of public safety for all that you do. We are honored to serve you.
