The Los Angeles Police Department, one of the biggest police departments in the country, is modernizing its communications and issuing FirstNet devices to all of its almost 10,000 officers. Through FirstNet’s reliable and secure connection, officers will be able to spend less time at the station doing paperwork and more time in the field with their community.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office in Tallahassee, Florida, participated in a demonstration of FirstNet technology to show how a dedicated public safety broadband network and technologies make a difference for first responders, especially when disasters hit or networks become congested.

The Burleson County’s Sheriff’s Office is safeguarding their community using innovative technologies, like drones that enhance situational awareness in their rural part of Texas. Public safety broadband provides reliable connection for the drones, keeps first responders safe in dangerous conditions, and allows for livestream of footage to assess disasters.

With over a million attendees, deputies were dispatched to the Tulsa State Fair in Oklahoma to keep attendees safe and to patrol the Midway, where the rides and games were located. The sheriff’s office used FirstNet’s critical data and technology to pinpoint calls and plot incidents with multiple cameras, cell phones, and RapidSOS.

From 911 calls to continuity of operations and pandemic response, technology helps the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) support response operations and communications to keep the university community safe and secure. The UMB uses FirstNet to enhance situational awareness and coordinate faster response times for public safety officials.

Cinco De Mayo celebrations in San Jose, California, bring in large crowds every year and first responders depend on FirstNet to avoid communication challenges during the festivities. A FirstNet SatCOLT was used to ensure responders had the coverage they needed to coordinate response, and interoperability was key to keeping attendees safe.

The Portsmouth Police Department in New Hampshire has teamed up with Hero Pups of Stratham to launch the Police Comfort K9 Program. The program, which is being funded by a donation from FirstNet, uses trained comfort dogs to promote officer wellness and victim support. In addition to helping ease anxiety for those affected by violence or tragedy, the dogs increase morale through visits to schools, nursing, homes, hospitals, and other community events.
