Brent started his career as a paramedic working for a private EMS group, later joining the Ingham County Sheriff Department as a police officer/paramedic. For 11 years, Brent responded to emergencies as an officer with a stethoscope.

After more than three decades as a first responder in the field, Brent wanted to share his firsthand knowledge as a consultant. Most recently, he served as an EMS radio communications expert for the EMS and trauma services section of Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services. He has also served as a longstanding member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAFECOM Emergency Response Council.

Brent enjoys speaking about FirstNet with EMS leaders across the country, and draws from his wealth of experience to explain the many advantages the network offers, like advanced diagnostic capabilities, a better picture of what patients need in real time, and more medical data resources to pull from than ever before. He envisions that when FirstNet is fully deployed, community paramedicine programs will expand into larger areas with the ability to reach the chronically ill and provide primary health care right in people’s homes.
