The FirstNet Authority’s new Public Safety Immersive Test Center is designed to explore future tech for public safety training and operations. The center enables simulations of real-world scenarios using virtual and augmented reality, location services, high-speed optical tracking cameras, and haptic interfaces.

The Los Angeles Police Department, one of the biggest police departments in the country, is modernizing its communications and issuing FirstNet devices to all of its almost 10,000 officers. Through FirstNet’s reliable and secure connection, officers will be able to spend less time at the station doing paperwork and more time in the field with their community.

The Burleson County’s Sheriff’s Office is safeguarding their community using innovative technologies, like drones that enhance situational awareness in their rural part of Texas. Public safety broadband provides reliable connection for the drones, keeps first responders safe in dangerous conditions, and allows for livestream of footage to assess disasters.

Public safety requested FirstNet emergency support 100+ times for Hurricane Ian. Assets from the dedicated FirstNet fleet supported first responders in affected areas, including Charlotte, Collier, Hardee, Hendry, Lee, Manatee, Orange and Sarasota counties in Florida, as well as Charleston and Georgetown counties in South Carolina. Making use of new innovations, FirstNet used amphibious vehicles and helicopters to deploy Compact Rapid Deployables to Sanibel Island and Pine Island.
