The FirstNet Authority is continuing to bring the FirstNet's Band 14 service to rural, remote, and Tribal lands.
Bringing broadband to Tribal responders has always been a priority for the FirstNet Authority. When Board members visited the Navajo Nation – which spans Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah – they learned how deployables and expanded coverage are bringing interoperability to the tribe’s emergency communications. FirstNet has played an important role during major events like the pandemic response and a visit from the First Lady of the United States.
Twenty years ago, the 9/11 terrorist attacks forever changed our nation – and set a new course for the way public safety communicates. The FirstNet Authority’s law enforcement expert, Harry Markley, reflects on his experiences on 9/11 and how today public safety communications are different with FirstNet, the nation’s public safety broadband network.
Arizona’s first responders got a major boost in their wireless communications with the addition of new, purpose-built FirstNet cell sites and other network enhancements.
America’s first responders are at the heart of the FirstNet Authority’s mission. Many FirstNet Authority staff are either current or former public safety officials. Collectively, they have deep experience in all public safety disciplines. We celebrate all first responders on Honoring the Nation's First Responders Day, and we appreciate their service every day of the year.
The FirstNet Authority’s Public Safety Advocacy team works hand-in-hand with public safety to make sure their needs are represented in the FirstNet network buildout and evolution. In the West region, seven public safety advisors cover seven states and territories and multiple public safety disciplines. Together they bring a wealth of expertise to their roles as public safety advocates.
First responders in Arizona protect people and property in rural and tribal areas, in large cities, on federal lands, in national parks, and on our border with Mexico.
A robust broadband ecosystem for public safety demands a proven pool of mobile apps based on the needs of the responder community. The FirstNet applications strategy is to enable the creation of public safety mobile applications while maintaining support for existing commercial applications. This will establish a portfolio of resilient, reliable, secure and easy-to-use mobile applications for first responders.
In the latest podcast, FirstNet Authority National Tribal Government Liaison Adam Geisler sits down with the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona’s Executive Director Maria Dadgar to discuss the jurisdictional and geographical challenges Arizona tribes face and how FirstNet could be the solution needed.
After rolling out FirstNet, the Mesa Police Department in Arizona developed new technology, including a mobile app, to enhance response times for law enforcement officers.
The FirstNet Authority met with professionals working in emergency communication centers (ECCs) at Arizona’s Public Safety Broadband Forum for PSAPs to discuss how ECCs are using FirstNet and how to integrate FirstNet into 911 operations.
