Public Safety Advisor for:

For more than 30 years, John Hunt has been a part of the 9-1-1 community, working to advance the field of emergency communications. He earned a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Technology from Eastern Michigan University, worked as a 9-1-1 product manager for AT&T and Regional Bell Companies, and worked as the NG9-1-1 director for TeleCommunication Systems. He has extensive experience with 9-1-1 public policy, serving as the Governor of Michigan’s appointee to the State 9-1-1 Committee for 25 consecutive years and as OnStar’s 9-1-1 public policy manager. Since 2016, he has been a senior public safety advisor with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority), handling consultation and outreach activities for Indiana. He remains a long-term member of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and National Emergency Number Association (NENA) and is a certified NENA Emergency Number Professional.

John joined the FirstNet Authority because he felt that he could contribute to an effort that was truly making a difference to the public. He tells people that because of FirstNet, 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points and Emergency Communications Centers will finally be able to share rich data — like real-time, two-way texts, videos, photos, and sensor monitoring data — with in-field personnel.

John is available to meet with agencies or individuals that want to learn more about FirstNet.
