Situated in the middle of the country and bordering six states, first responders in Nebraska understand the importance of reliable communications coverage. Responders across the Cornhusker State need to communicate seamlessly with neighboring states and mitigate year-round extreme weather conditions.
The First Responder Network Authority team recognizes the unique communications challenges that Nebraska first responders face. We have been working closely with Nebraska public safety officials since 2014, capturing their feedback and translating it into the design of the FirstNet network. During the development of state deployment plans, our team worked hand-in-hand with Nebraska leaders to ensure the plan was customized to address their needs.
Following this close collaboration, Nebraska chose to adopt the plan and “opt in” to FirstNet. Today, we continue to meet regularly with state and local officials to discuss their public safety broadband needs. In 2019 alone, our team met with Nebraska public safety officials more than 10 times. Our engagements in Nebraska included the Nebraska Broadband Working Group Winter Meeting and the Nebraska APCO/NENA Conference. Engagements like these are crucial to the ongoing success of the network and the advancement of public safety communications across the state and the nation.

FirstNet in Action in Nebraska
- Sheriff Neil Miller of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska began implementing mobile data more than 20 years ago, and he continues to bring advanced technologies to increase the efficiency of operations for deputies. With FirstNet being built out throughout the state of Nebraska, deputies and other first responders are able to spend more time in the communities they serve.
