The FirstNet Authority supports federal/DOD public safety

The Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN), known as FirstNet, provides dedicated spectrum and quality of service, priority, and preemption to public safety users at all levels of government. To support our federal user base, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) Government Engagement team collaborates with federal agencies with a public safety, emergency management, or homeland security mission—such as the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—to advance and support broadband technology planning and operations.

Over two dozen federal departments and agencies are represented on the FirstNet Authority’s Agency Point of Contact (APOC) group. APOCs engage monthly with the FirstNet Authority and help distribute information and any requests for feedback from the FirstNet Authority to other agency components and bureaus.

Federal agencies are also represented on the 15-member FirstNet Authority Board, which includes the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Attorney General of the United States, and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Additionally, the FirstNet Authority Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) includes representatives from DHS and DOJ.

To learn more about how your federal agency can benefit from FirstNet, please contact our Government Engagement team at GovernmentEngagement@firstnet.gov.

Our team of subject matter experts can help answer your questions on a variety of topics, including:

  • FirstNet eligibility for federal departments (e.g., DOD, DOJ, DHS) and agencies, and national security organizations
  • Your agency’s coverage needs
  • Operational assistance for public safety
  • Federal broadband policies
  • FirstNet use cases and best practices
